There are four components that get installed, depending upon the type of installation.
QQube Database - Holds and organizes the extracted data
Configuration Tool - Controls what data gets extracted
Synchronizer Tool - The data extraction engine
Excel Add-In - Drag and Drop Excel Add-In
By default, this gets installed to
You will see (by default): QQube.db and QQube.log The QQube.log is a transaction log that tracks all changes to the database and ensures the integrity of the database.
The QQube Database can be stored anywhere, with two conditions:
The QQube Configuration Tool is the brain that controls what information is extracted from your data sources, e.g. QuickBooks, and how often. It also allows advanced users to control the database, and view the activity log for monitoring and troubleshooting purposes. You can find this Tool under Start>All Programs>CLEARIFY – QQube Tool. As an additional bonus, it acts as a gateway for report shells for each subject: Excel, PowerPivot, Power BI Access, SAP® Crystal Reports, Tableau®
Each option will have a direct link to a How-To Guide in the CLEARIFY Support area of this website.
This applet sits in your system tray and allows QuickBooks to communicate with the QQube Database to ensure that the resulting data is both accurate and up to date. (Right click to show:)
If you reboot your machine, the Synchronizer Tool will automatically re-appear in the tray.
If you have a 64 bit machine you can use the 64 Bit Database Engine to talk to the database, but QQube can only talk to QuickBooks using a 32 bit connection (QuickBooks Limitation).
This Add-In for Excel 2007 and later eliminates the need to deal with Microsoft Query, and thus the need to link tables together and learn their relationships. You will simply drag and drop your information into Excel to use the native functionality of Excel.
All QQube does is make the data available for your use – the rest is all Excel.
Several elements are installed regardless of which components are chosen to be installed:
These elements are what allow Excel, Crystal, Access, etc to communicate to QQube - and are the reason that others can use and update reports which you create, on their own system, if they also have QQube.
NOTE: The QQube Configuration Tool and the ODBC components are REQUIRED elements in a Multi-User Install Client installation.
If you have a 64 bit system, both the 64-bit ODBC drivers and 32-bit ODBC drivers get installed. However if you are using a 32-bit program, e.g. Excel, then you will only be able to use the 32-bit ODBC driver to communicate with the QQube Database.
There are two System DSN's that get created during installation:
We call these 'QQube Users' which employ different permission mechanisms to connect to particular QQube data sets/subjects. The QQube Financials user has permissions for financial reporting, including subjects for financial summaries, general ledger detail and payroll (Job Costing contains payroll, but is accessed using the QQube User, not QQube Financials). The QQube User user can connect to all other subjects.
