You go to install QQube and get the following message:
By default a client version of QuickBooks is expected to be installed.
This is normal behavior for:
However, there are cases where you would want a workstation (or server) to act as a client.
Resolution
For QQube 7.7 Build 508 and later ONLY
WORKSTATION - without QuickBooks, the installer will default to the multi-user client as shown here:
There is nothing else you need to do.
SERVER - will require a switch to allow a server on your network to act as a QQube client. Open up a cmd window (with administrative rights) and run a switch that will allow the installer to ignore the fact that QB is not installed. In this example the qqubeinstall.exe was placed in the downloads directory; and run from that directory.
As you run through the installer, you will find the default choice as multi-user client:
FOR BOTH WORKSTATION AND SERVER - On the next screen if you don't see the server as shown here:
Then please review this article to solve this issue: https://clearify.com/wiki/view/4567/multi-user-client-cannot-see-server
For QQube Version BEFORE 7.7 Build 508
The following resolution is intended ONLY for the multi-user client installation.
There are two things the installer looks for:
If you use regedit.exe on the server, you would navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Intuit\QuickBooks\29.0\belacct
29.0 represents the version of QuickBooks:
"belacct" refers to the version of QuickBooks
Within that key will be a string called "Path" - with the value showing where the QBW32.EXE should reside
What you need to do is recreate ONLY the key/string/value underneath HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node
which is:Intuit/QuickBooks/28.0/belacct > Path with value C:\[folder]\qw32.exe
Example:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Intuit/QuickBooks/28.0/belacct
Path = c:\QB\QBW32.EXE
This path can be anything you choose.
The next step is to retrieve a copy of the QBW32.EXE from the server (or other machine with a the same year and version of QB you placed in the registry) and place it in the directory you noted in the registry path definition (and subsequently created on the C:\Drive).
Once you have created the registry key, string, and path value, and placed a copy of the QBW32.EXE in that path, then you can go ahead and install the multi-user client.
Once QQube is successfully installed, you can remove the registry key, and the QBW32.EXE (and path) from your hard drive.
