You attempt to install QQube and get the following message:
By default a client version of QuickBooks is expected to be installed wherever the synch occurs.
However, there are cases where you would want a workstation (or server) to act as a client, where it is not necessary to have a client copy of QuickBooks installed.
[A] - For QQube Versions 7.7 Build 508 and LATER
WORKSTATION OPTION - without QuickBooks, the installer will default to the multi-user client as shown here:
There is nothing else you need to do.
SERVER OPTION - will require a specific command to allow a server on your network to act as a QQube client. Open up a cmd window (with administrative rights) and run the following:
(NOTE: In this example the qqubeinstall.exe was placed in the downloads directory; and run from that directory.)
As you run through the installer, you will find the default choice as multi-user client:
FOR BOTH WORKSTATION AND SERVER - On the next screen if you don't see the server as shown here:
Then please review this article to solve this issue: QQube Multi-User Client Cannot See Server
[B] - For QQube Versions BEFORE 7.7 Build 508
NOTE: QB 2022 or 2023 are 64 bit versions - and would use a different registry entry than shown below - but versions of QQube before 7.7 Build 508 will not run with either one of those years, and why instructions would not be necessary.
The following resolution is intended ONLY for the multi-user client installation.
There are two things the installer looks for:
If you use regedit.exe on the server, you would navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Intuit\QuickBooks\31.0\belacct
31.0 represents the version of QuickBooks:
"belacct" refers to the version of QuickBooks.
Within that key will be a string called "Path" - with the value showing where the QBW32.EXE should reside
What you need to do is recreate ONLY the key/string/value underneath HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node
Example:
Path = c:\QB\QBW32.EXE
This path can be anything you choose.
The next step is to retrieve a copy of the QBW32.EXE from the server (or other machine with a the same year and version of QB you placed in the registry) and place it in the directory you noted in the registry path definition.
Once you have created the registry key, string, and path value, and placed a copy of the QBW32.EXE in the desired path, then you can go ahead and install the multi-user client.
Once QQube is successfully installed, you can remove the registry key, and the QBW32.EXE (and path) from your hard drive.
